Vestibular Rehabilitation

What is vestibular rehabilitation?  Vestibular rehabilitation is a type of physical therapy that uses a specific set of exercises and techniques to treat various disorders of the inner ear and central nervous system that have the potential to be severely debilitating for the affected individual.  Common complaints that are seen in those needing vestibular rehab include: dizziness, vertigo, loss of balance, nausea, blurred vision, difficulty lying on one's back, and trouble with specific positions or head motions.

At Harrison Physical Therapy, our vestibular rehabilitation program is designed to look at three things: how your condition is affecting your everyday life, what is causing your condition, and what we need to do in order to resolve your symptoms.  We start by asking you questions related to the origin of your symptoms, what brings them on, what resolves them, what time of day they are more common, how severe they are, and how they have progressed or changed over time.  We then use manual and therapeutic techniques based on the most current research to diagnose and treat the cause of your symptoms.
